SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –Shepherdstown Elementary School (SES) Principal Scott Jacobson is stepping down at the end of the school year. After much deliberation Jacobson, who took over as Principal in December 2016, is pursuing a new opportunity.
“We are grateful for Mr. Jacobson’s service to students,” Jefferson County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Bondy Shay Gibson said.
Mr. Jacobson’s last day will be June 6, 2019. Dr. Gibson said former Jefferson County Schools’ principal Nancy McManus will take over as interim principal on June 7, 2019 to minimize the impact on staff as the school year ends.
Ms. McManus has more than 30 years’ experience in education. She began her career as a teacher at North Jefferson Elementary School and served as principal at Blue Ridge Elementary School. She worked as a principal at four different elementary schools in Loudon County, Va.
“We are grateful to have someone with Ms. McManus extraordinary level of expertise to support Shepherdstown Elementary through this transition,” Dr. Gibson said. “She is a wealth of knowledge and experience and we are confident she will be able to maintain the high standards of Jefferson County Schools while we search for a permanent replacement.”
That search will begin immediately, according to Dr. Gibson.   Every leadership position in Jefferson is chosen using a selection process that includes teaching, service and parent representation and only by unanimous consent.   This ensures quality of selection and full community support.   Jefferson County values the trust of our community and commits to appointing leaders who meet the standards for earning that trust.
