November One Jefferson Award Winners Named

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. – The Jefferson County Board of Education celebrated the “One Jefferson” Award winners for November during their regular meeting Nov. 12, 2019.
The awards are presented each month to a professional employee, a service employee, and a volunteer who have made special contributions to Jefferson County Schools.
This month’s Professional Employee is Jill Guempel, a teacher at the Opportunity Learning Center.  
She teaches Options Pathway  STEM, afternoon social emotional classes, and is one of the evening high school teachers according to her supervisor, Thomas Vandell.
Vandell called Guempel a “Jill of all trades,” from teaching to fixing shoes, washing clothes, providing clothing if needed, cooking, caring for the garden beds, and other activities involving the students.
The Service Employee of the Month is Brenda Swinney, a secretary at the Transportation Department.  
Swinney is said to love her job and always goes the extra mile. 
She works to make sure everyone gets the attention needed for their situation and cares for the workers on a person al level and is dedicated to her job and to all employees with whom she is associated.
Suzanne Hersey is the Volunteer of the Month.  
She volunteers at South Jefferson Elementary School where she works with the first-grade teachers and students every week.  
Hersey supports the students through her small group instruction/support and always has a smile on her face. 
Students love working with her and the teaching team reports an incredible rapport with her because of her professionalism and her level of caring for all students and staff.
