CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- Jefferson County Schools was informed on Tuesday, Nov. 27, that a 27-year-old man had allegedly threatened to carry out acts of violence at multiple locations including Jefferson High School. The individual, who was once a student there, made the threats over a week ago while in a hospital in Berkeley County.   The medical personnel at the hospital immediately contacted police in Berkeley and we are deeply appreciative of their vigilance and quick action.   The Berkeley police reacted promptly and the individual was incarcerated.

Jefferson County Schools immediately contacted the Prosecuting Attorney's Office in Berkeley County to register our requests regarding the disposition of Mr. Jon Robert Phillips.  The formal letter of request can be viewed below.  As always, student and staff safety is our primary concern.  We continue to deeply appreciate your vigilance, trust and partnership in building Jefferson's future.

Jefferson County Schools would like to thank the Honorable Catie Wilkes Delligatti, Berkeley Prosecuting Attorney, for her prompt and thorough collaboration in addressing this issue.   Her office has been exemplary in hearing the concerns of the citizens of Jefferson County for student safety and working to ensure that they are addressed through the legal system.
