Jefferson County Schools Board of EducationCHARLES TOWN, W.Va. – Members of the Jefferson County Board of Education (JCSBOE) determined committee assignments during their regular board meeting on August 27, 2018. The board determines these assignments every two years.
JCSBOE President Kathryn Skinner will serve on the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Commission.  Vice President Mark Osbourn will serve on the Eastern Panhandle Instructional Cooperative (EPIC). Laurie Ogden will serve on the Vocational Advisory Committee and the Library Board. Arthena S. Roper will serve on the Cooperative Extension Service Committee (4-H) and the Cultural Diversity Committee. And Gary Kable has three committee assignments. He’ll represent the JCSBOE on the McCormick Fund Committee, the Jefferson County Development Authority (JCDA), and the James Rumsey Administrative Council.
Mr. Kable’s appointment to the JCDA drew public interest during last week’s board meeting because of their upcoming vote regarding funding for water permits at the Rockwool Facility. Concerned citizens have spoken out against the plant currently being built in Ranson, W.Va., and called on Mr. Kable to vote no on the bond.
While he will be able to offer input, Mr. Kable will not have a vote when the matter comes before the JCDA Sept. 18, 2018. Per the JCDA bylaws, voting members must be approved and appointed by the Jefferson County Commission. The earliest Mr. Kable’s appointment could be placed on the agenda for a vote before the commission is Sept. 20, 2018, two days after the JCDA votes.
Mr. Kable replaces former JCSBOE member Scott Sudduth on the JCDA. Sudduth was also not a voting member.
