CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. – For the first time in decades, Ranson Elementary School (RES) will have a new principal.  The Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBOE) appointed Mr. Lance Astorino to head the school during their regular meeting last night.
Mr. Astorino, who will be starting his 15th year in education, takes over for Ms. Debra Corbett who has been principal at Ranson Elementary since 1989.
Mr. Astorino said he understands he has big shoes to fill but will work with staff and the community to maintain Corbett’s legacy at Ranson Elementary.
“I will continue to be an advocate for high-quality instruction, high expectations, and supporting our students socially and emotionally as we navigate these unchartered times and beyond,” Mr. Astorino said. “I will work to support and foster a well-rounded education for all students of the Ranson community.”
Ms. Corbett announced her retirement earlier this year but will stay on in a mentor role as Mr. Astorino makes the transition from Driswood Elementary School, where he has served as an Assistant Principal for the last three years.
Ranson Elementary School has long been a tight-knit community, an attribute Mr. Atorino said made him want to serve Ranson.
“One of the many things that drew me to RES was the strong sense of community, support, and passion they have for their school. Ranson Elementary is the cornerstone, the heart of the community, town, and county.”
Ms. Corbett said she has enjoyed serving as Principal, adding that making a difference for children has been rewarding for her.
“This experience has truly made me a better person, and I will miss it after 39 years with Jefferson County Schools.”
