Child Nutrition Announcements


    Effective 12/1/2015 - To obtain your food handler card you will come to the Jefferson County Health Department:

    MONDAY, TUESDAY, or WEDNESDAY between the hours of 9am-11am and 1pm-3:30pm. (NO LONGER processing on FRIDAY)

    You will be given a food handler training guideline booklet with your food handler card for you to refer to as needed. JCHD will no longer require the food handler test or a TB risk assessment form before obtaining a food handler ID card. The food handler slideshow will remain accessible for review.


    This year, all SECONDARY schools will continue a biometric finger scanning identification program in an effort to provide security for your child's cafeteria account, eliminate clerical errors and provide students an easy way to identify themselves when entering the school and using the cafeteria.

    The actual collection of biometric information by registering the students within the program creating a unique grid of intersection points from the scanned finger has taken place in the middle schools and continues in the senior high schools. A written request not to participate in the biometric identification program may be submitted to the Department of Child Nutrition, Jefferson County Schools, 635 McGarry Blvd., Kearneysville, WV 25430 at any time. Failure to correspond with a written notice not to participate in the program will be considered as giving permission for the student participation.


    The Community Eligibility Participation program for FREE meals includes the following schools: Blue Ridge Elementary, Blue Ridge Primary, Ranson Elementary, North Jefferson Elementary, and T. A. Lowery Elementary. These schools have qualified for the federal program by having 40% or more of their registered students within a directly certified household. ONLY Households containing children attending another school (for example, middle or high school) will need to complete the Meal Application to qualify for the free/reduced meal program.

    You may submit your Meal Application online or paper copies are available at the Jefferson County Board of Education, 110 Mordington Ave., Charles Town, WV 25414. Applications are also available at the Jeferson County Schools Child Nutrition Office, located at 635 McGarry Blvd., Kearneysville, WV 25430.   • 5th Grade Student Accounts

    As your child becomes a SECONDARY student, this is a reminder - in order to maintain charging privileges, your student's meal account balance needs to be below $65.00 prior to the beginning of the fall school year.

    There are several ways in which you can make your payment -

    • Mail a check to the address mentioned above,
    • Use the online credit card payment system to view and make a one time or reoccuring payment -
    • Using Credit/Debit Cards - Call the Child Nutrition Department at the numbers mentioned above,
    • Visit our office at 635 McGarry Blvd., Kearneysville, WV 25430, and make payment by cash, check, or credit/debit card
