CHARLES TOWN,. W.Va. -- Each month two employees are chosen for the Spirit of Jefferson Awards:  a professional and a service person.
This month’s award winners are Elizabeth “Bett” Sims, Special Education Teacher, Head Teacher, Ranson Elementary School, and Mary Mullens, PreK Aide/Assistant Teacher, North Jefferson Elementary School.
Elizabeth Sims, as explained by the two colleagues who nominated her, ” brings so much joy to Ranson Elementary.  She greets the students at the door each morning with songs and happiness.  All of the students know her, and she creates personal relationships with the students.  Staff members seek her out for wisdom and advice.   She is always ready to lend a hand, and she never loses patience with anyone."
“She does what she can to make our students’ day a little brighter.  Her announcements in the morning are funny and bring a smile to anyone’s face. She is stern and fair, but always just with students.”
Mary Mullens was nominated because of her natural love and admiration for the children.  She goes above and beyond her duties to make sure all goes well each day.  Her love for her job shines through with her actions.  She brings exceptional spirit to the school with her conduct and excellence in her work and actions.
“Mary is a wonderful, beautiful person with morals and a heart of gold!  Thank you, Mary, for being an awesome mentor. She is the true meaning of what the spirit of Jefferson County Schools should look like,” stated her colleague who nominated her.
