Stuff-A-Bus Event to Gather School Supplies

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. – A Jefferson County Schools Bus Operator is working with the Walmart in Charles Town to gather school supplies for students.
Last year Heather Pindell said she was able to collect almost 50 backpacks of supplies for students with little notice, and this year is hoping to double that number.
That’s why on August 3, 2019, she is volunteering to park a Jefferson County School bus in the Walmart parking lot from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm to collect everything from pencils and notebooks to backpacks and calculators.
“Our goal is to get bookbags, school supplies, lunchboxes,” Pindell said. “Anything so that our students can walk through the door the first day of school and feel comfortable.”
Students need school supplies on the first day of school for a variety of reasons, and Pindell hopes that having some extras on hand at each school in the county will help students be ready to learn from the start.
Pindell said that everyone is encouraged to help by donating school supplies during the event on August 3, 2019, if they are able.
She said that community support, combined with the wonderful partnership she’s had with Walmart, is critical.
“I think the community, together, supporting our kids in Jefferson County is amazing.”
If you can’t make it on August 3, 2019, Pindell said items can be donated at the Jefferson County Schools Transportation Department located at 635 McGarry Blvd. in Charles Town up to the first day of school on August 19, 2019.
