CHARLES TOWN., W.Va. -- Sixth graders at Charles Town Middle School learned about birds of prey, at an assembly on April 23.
The program was presented by “Raptors Up Close,” an organization dedicated to educating the public about the fascinating world of raptors.   Based in Berkeley Springs, WV, the presenters were Howard and Jason Caldwell, father and son, who are licensed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources to handle and possess birds of prey.  They have worked with raptors for nearly 30 years.
Their presentation included much information about the birds and utilized the actual physical handling of the different birds of prey.
Seven birds were brought to show the students, including owls and hawks. A time of questions and answers was held at the end of the assembly.
