Congratulations to Emma Forrest an 8th grader here at Harpers Ferry Middle School!! Emma was the recent state winner of the SunWise with SHADE poster contest that helps to raise awareness about sun safety. Ms. Spies and Ms. Carver integrated their two classrooms of Health and Art to form a collaboration that benefited both groups of students. Each group learned the benefits of sun safety and the importance of proper skin care because one in five children will grow up to develop skin cancer in the future.

Harpers Ferry Sixth Grade students participated in our annual Health Fair this week.  They were able to rotate through a variety of stations where they learned about lung capacity, healthy eating habits, daily exercise routines, and a number of other healthy activities and lifestyles that they can choose to take better care of themselves and their bodies.  Presenters from throughout the community volunteered their time to come and share this information with our students.  Thank You to all participants who made this a successful, healthy adventure.

Students in Miss Barnes' 5th period class created a bulletin board for National Austism Awareness Month which is observed in April.  Students worked together to come up with idea and theme which will inform the students of HFMS about autism.

Two of our outstanding Tigers created this diabetes awareness bulletin board.  They wanted the school to be aware of the issues involved with diabetes, especially since we have a number of staff and students who are affected by the affliction.

 Nice Job Ladies!!!
